Kybella® is a prescription medicine used to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin”. Dr. Ryan E. Dodde, II may recommend Kybella® for patients in Holland, Grand Rapids, Muskegon or surrounding areas.
What is Kybella?
Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When Kybella® is injected into the fatty areas underneath the chin, it results in fat cells being permanently destroyed.
Am I a good candidate for Kybella?
Ideal candidates are healthy patients who are interested in eliminating their double chin. Patients with any kind of infection in the treatment area or who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not receive Kybella®. Kybella® should not be used in patients who have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis or a history or presence of multiple severe allergies.
What can I expect from Kybella?
Following Kybella® treatments, patients can expect a slimmer chin profile appearance. Kybella® permanently removes existing fat from below the chin and neck area following serial treatments.
What is the recovery period like from Kybella injections?
Patients may experience swelling, bruising, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around treatment areas following their injections. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous activity, repetitive bending, excessive sun or heat and consumption of alcoholic beverages. A pressure dressing is beneficial in decreasing swelling. Application of ice to the injection site is helpful for discomfort and management of swelling. Symptoms typically are greatly reduced 48-72 hours after injection. Results should be visible within two to four treatments.
